Organizing Ideas For The Weekend #15

Happy Friday!  Time for another organizing idea for your weekend :)

Is your car a mess?  Are you overwhelmed with the thought of a road trip for spring break because clutter has taken over your vehicle?  Do you avoid having anyone else in your car because you're embarrassed by the chaos?

If you answered "Yes!" to any of these questions, then read on!  Today's post will give you some tips for organizing your car this weekend.  If not, please share your tips in the comments :)

We're hard on our vehicles.  We use them all the time but don't think about organizing (or even cleaning or tidying) them as much as we focus on the inside of our homes.  And once it starts to get a little unorganized or messy, it doesn't take much for your vehicle to become overwhelming!

Here are a few tips to help keep your car organized:

1.  Make sure you have someplace to put your garbage.  Then, remember to empty that garbage regularly.  Whether you do it every time you leave the car or once a week or once a month depends on what types of garbage you're throwing out (don't want things rotting in there!) and your personal preferences.  I love this idea of using a cereal container lined with a garbage bag as a garbage can for your car.

2.  Use a basket or box or bin in your trunk or hatch to corral loose items.  This helps keep things from rolling around (or flying around!) and just feels less overwhelming.

3.  Use baskets or seat back pockets to hold kids' items like toys, activities, snacks, and wipes.  You don't have to buy ones that are specially made for the car.  Cheaper versions can be adapted from over-the-door shoe organizers.  Just look at all the organizational yumminess in this minivan!  She actually gets stopped when she's grocery shopping by people who want to take pictures of this!  {Really - check out her post for tons of great ideas - especially if you have kids!}

4.  Put together an emergency kit with supplies such as a first aid kit, jumper cables, blankets, etc.  If you're traveling in a wintery area, make sure you include a compact shovel, ice scraper, extra hat/mitts, and warm clothing).

5.  Keep your glove box organized with the items you need to access from the front seat (sunglasses, insurance, registration/ownership, small flashlight, etc.).  If you have a very small glove box, you can also put together a small file system like this one to keep your important documents organized.  Store it under a seat or in a door pocket.

6. If you have a lot of small things that you don't want to lose in your glove box or in console, group them together into a small flat container.
