Day 30 - More Decorations {Net Zero Decluttering Challenge}

Have you ever felt overwhelmed during the month of December with all the stuff that enters your home? The trick I've found helps me is to declutter throughout the month. Will you join me in the Net Zero Decluttering Challenge?

Each day this month I'll share some decluttering tips and ideas so you can end the month with the same number of items in your home (or maybe even less!) than what you started the month with.

Today I'm sharing tips on decluttering more holiday decorations.

Today's Suggested Decluttering Task

As you're putting away your holiday decorations, take a few minutes to declutter them.  If you decluttered your decorations at the beginning of the #NetZeroChallenge, you may not have many left to declutter, but now that the holidays are over, you may be surprised what you are now ready to part with.

Make sure you look back at the tips I shared on Day 2 for decluttering holiday decorations.  But in addition to those, here are a few more tips:

  • Look at your available storage space... if your decorations are too much for your space, declutter them until they fit
  • Think about what will be different in your family next year... will you need/want all the decorations you have now?
  • Reflect on your tastes and style... let go of items that no longer fit or that you no longer love
  • Remember the one-in-one-out rule... declutter at least as many decorations as you added this year.

If you want to organize your decorations as you put them away, check out these posts:

Decluttering My Decorations

We won't be taking down our Christmas decorations until this weekend (or maybe even next weekend since we have a few things happening this weekend), but I'm sure I'll find more things to declutter then.  In the meantime, I took a quick peek around today and found a few things to let go of:

  • 1 pair of my Christmas pajamas to give away (they're a bit small and I wore other Christmas pjs this year)
  • 2 stocking holders (we don't use them to hold our stockings anyway)
  • 1 Christmas candle holder

My Progress in the #NetZeroClutter challenge

Nothing new in today (yucky winter weather so we stayed in... that's one way to limit clutter from entering our home!).

We got 3 new cooking utensils for Christmas so today I decluttered 3 old ones.  I also donated 1 vase and my daughter let go of 2 stuffed animals.
So that puts me at -10 items today in the #NetZeroClutter challenge and -344 overall.  1 more day to do some more decluttering!

What's Next For You?
