31 Cheap & Easy DIY Organizers

Think you have to spend a lot of money on costly organizing tools to get your house in order?  Do you put off organizing until you can afford to buy organizing products that you see in magazines, on Pinterest, or on blogs?

Well I'm here to tell you that getting organized doesn't have to be expensive!  In fact, you CAN organize your home very inexpensively, or even without spending any money at all.  Sound too good to be true?

All through October I'm going to prove to you that you can get organized without a lot of money out of pocket.  This series is called 31 {Cheap & Easy} DIY Organizers.

Just like 31 Days of Organizing Tips and 31 Days of Easy Decluttering, I'll be posting every day for the whole month.  Each day will have a different idea to help you get organized and examples of ways you can do it.

Don't let the word "DIY" throw you off... these are all easy things to do :)

Throughout this series I'm sharing ideas to help you organize your home by either

  • making simple organizers with things that don't cost very much OR
  • using items you already have in a different way.

If cost has been holding you back from getting organized, now you've got no more excuses!

Getting ready for the series

There are 2 things to do to prepare for this series.

  1. Subscribe by email so you don't miss any posts (enter your email address under "Follow Me" in the right sidebar).
  2. Look around your home to take stock of what you have.  I like to organize by "shopping my home".  I can sometimes find an item that is not being used (or not used as well as it could be) in one area of my home, that would be better used somewhere else.  Rather than having the unused item cluttering up my home and spending money on an organizing product for the space I'm working on, I can solve both problems at once.

Be creative and think outside the box too.  Items don't have to be used for their intended purpose.  You'll see what I mean as the series goes on :)

Here are just a few examples of ways you can shop your home.

  • You probably have extra ice cube trays laying around (cluttering up your kitchen cabinets).  You can use those to organize your earrings!  Shop your home.
  • Or you've seen those fancy drawer organizers to help keep your desk drawers organized.  Why go out any buy those, when you've got empty boxes and plastic fruit containers in your recycling bins?  A little bit of cutting to size, possibly some decorating if you want to be creative, and then some arranging in the drawers, and you've got yourself free drawer organizers!  Shop your home.
  • Don't forget about furniture that isn't being used well.  Samantha at Simply Organized was frustrated with this corner of her office and didn't feel the space was being well used.

She shopped her home and found a table and a set of drawers that weren't being used (one was even ready to be donated!) and she was able to make much better use of that corner.

Simply Organized

I love how she is able to keep her office organized with this extra storage space and it didn't cost her a thing!  Shop your home.

So, take a look around your home today and see what you can use to get organized!  And don't forget to subscribe by email so you can receive all ideas I share.
