Day 7: Finding Balance {12 Days of Being Organized for the Holidays}

Do you get overwhelmed during the holidays trying to keep up with the day-to-day tasks?  There are so many extra events and gatherings so we're not home as often.  And when we are home, we're busy with holiday wrapping, baking, and decorating.

It's hard to fit in time for things like cleaning and cooking!  In today's post I'll share tips to help you make use of your time so you can stay more balanced during the holidays and enjoy all the special memories you're making.

December Family Goals {Free Printable}

It's December!  It's the beginning of a new month and that means a Monthly Family Goals printable for you!

December is one of my favourite months of the year.  Of course Christmas is in December so there are lots of holiday festivities and gatherings.  And my birthday is also in December!

But December is always a really busy month, so it's extra important to take some time at the beginning of the month to think about the month ahead and set some goals.  Otherwise, time will fly by and at the end of the month you'll feel like you were always busy, but not necessarily doing things you wanted to do.

So, use the December goals printable to help you live more intentionally this month!  You'll be glad you did :)

October was a great month... my daughter's 8th birthday, Canadian Thanksgiving, a few days away with my hubby, and Halloween last night.  Fun times.  On the blog, October was all about the 31 {Cheap & Easy} DIY Organizers series.  I had so much fun bringing so many great ideas to you all month!

OK, on to November!

October is a good month.  My daughter's birthday is today!  And in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in a few weeks.  And of course there's Halloween to wrap up the month.  I'm super happy we've had some warm summer-like days the past week though... not completely ready to admit it's fall yet :)

September Family Goals {Free Printable}

It's September!  How did that happen?  It seems like summer just started and here we are, with the kids back in school and the days getting shorter.  I'm a summer gal so I still try to squeeze every ounce out of summer that I can before the weather turns colder.

It's the beginning of a new month and that means a Monthly Family Goals printable for you!  I know this is a bit late, but I'm sure there are some of you, like me, who are still working on getting organized for fall.

April Family Goals {Free Printable!}

It's the beginning of a new month and that means a new Monthly Family Goals printable for you!

Yay!  It's April!  One of my favourite months of the year.  It's my hubby's birthday today (yep April fools baby LOL) and it's finally starting to look a tiny bit like spring around here.

{Although after this crazy winter we're apparently about a month behind normal.  The last of the snow on our lawn and in the garden is nearly gone (still piles from the plows along the road though... sigh).}

My crocuses are just starting to pop out of the ground and I can't wait to see all my bulbs bloom this month!  I love the newness spring brings :)

Why I Still Haven't Set Any Resolutions or Goals for 2014

If you made new year's resolutions, are you still working towards them?  Resolutions work well for some people, and if you're sticking to yours, then that's great!  Good for you!

But many people give up on their resolutions within a few days.  But then we beat ourselves up for not succeeding.  And then make the same resolutions next year.  The cycle continues, year after year, without very much actual change or growth. The thing is, resolutions are usually "all or nothing", and that makes them hard to achieve.

This has led many people to set goals instead.  I like goals.  Good goals help you see and measure your progress along the way.  They give you something to shoot towards so you aren't wandering aimlessly through life, year after year, lamenting about how quickly time flies.  You can break goals down into smaller goals, which help you achieve them, and feel good about yourself along the way.

My problem is that I set too many goals usually.  And I pack my days so full of tasks, designed to help me achieve my goals, that I can't possibly finish everything.

But then I get discouraged.

Organizing Our Summer

This week officially marks the start of summer on the calendar, although my kids are in school for another week and a half.   As summer approches, our family is looking forward to some down time after the school year!  We love summer :)

This is the first time I've been home with my kids in the summer (other than when I was on maternity leave with each of them) so I'm especially looking forward to making lots of great memories.  Financially, we're hoping my hubby gets plenty of calls from Canada Post to go in for work, but we're also hoping for a lot of family time all together (he's a new relief letter carrier without a lot of seniority).

I've struggled writing this post and leading up to this summer because my inclination would be to plan and organize our summer in great detail, but I don't want to be like Danny Tanner in this old clip from Full House:
