Day 14: Underwear Drawer {31 Days of Easy Decluttering}

 Day 14: Underwear Drawer {31 Days of Easy Decluttering} | fromoverwhelmedtoorganized.blogspot.com

Welcome back to 31 Days of Easy Decluttering!  If you've missed any of the previous posts, there are links to all of them at the end of this post.

Today's Easy Decluttering Project

Today we're talking about decluttering your underwear drawer.  Again, this is one of those places that you use every day.  So if it's cluttered it gets your day off to a frustrating start.  It's hard to find what you're looking for.  Or you don't use some items because they are buried underneath the things you wear the most.  Either way it's a waste of time or sometimes money.

Note:  Some people like having numerous bras and panties.  Other people use the same ones over and over and when they wear out they replace them with new ones.  I'm not telling you how many you should have or not have... I'm just giving you suggestions to help you decide which ones you want to keep and which ones you want to purge!  Like any of these decluttering posts, it's entirely up to you.

Just remember the definition of clutter:  anything you don't need, use, love, or have the space to store!

Easy Decluttering Steps

Throughout the series, you'll follow these steps to complete each daily task.  {Don't forget to take before and after pictures to share too!}

Note: The main purpose of this series is to declutter so don't get overwhelmed doing too much cleaning.  Once your house is less cluttered it will be easier to clean so you can always come back and do it later!

Also, if you have the time, you can organize the space while you're doing this step, but don't get overwhelmed with too much organizing this month.  We're focused on decluttering!

Purging Tips for Your Underwear Drawer

Follow the steps listed above, and use these tips as you purge (step #5) your underwear drawer:

  • Throw out any undies with holes, as well as panties or bras that are worn out, stretched, or stained
  • Relocate underwear that belong in another family member's drawer {it happens!}
  • Relocate any other items that have crept into this drawer that aren't panties or bras
  • Give away or donate delicates that don't fit you well {Note:  some people aren't keen on the idea of donating undergarments but I think it's a personal choice - if you do donate bras or panties, make sure they're clean and in virtually new condition - would you want to buy these items second hand if they look old and used?}
  • Give away or donate underwear you haven't worn in the last six months {there's probably a reason you haven't worn it - and unless that reason has changed, chances are pretty good that you won't wear it any time soon}
  • Consider how often you do laundry and how many panties or bras you need and then give away or donate more if you have too many
  • Consider what types of underwear and bras you wear now {not what you used to wear or what you think you should wear} and give away or donate those you don't need
  • Think about how much space you have in your undies drawer and if you still have too many panties and bras for your space then purge some more.  You want to be able to easily find what you're looking for when you're getting ready in the morning!

Even if you're an organized person, your underwear drawer probably needs some occasional purging.  But if you haven't done it in awhile, take a few minutes today to get it done.  You'll be glad you did!

Pictures and Links to Inspire You

If you'd like to organize your underwear drawer to make it easier to find what you're looking for {and pretty to look at every day!}, you can add drawer organizers or baskets similar to the ones I shared in the Sock Drawer Decluttering post from day 1.
There are lots of drawer organizers you can purchase that are designed specifically for panties and bras.  Or you can DIY your own organizers.

If You're On A Roll...

You can declutter more than your own underwear drawer... take a peek at other family members' drawers too.
