Day 22: 31 Day Photo Decluttering Challenge

Got a lot of photos? Do you want to be able to enjoy your pictures instead of having to search and search to find your favourites? Does the thought of tackling your photo collection seem so overwhelming that you keep putting it off? Me too!

That's why this month I'm hosting the 31 Day Photo Decluttering Challenge! Each day I'll share tips to help you declutter your photo collection so you can really treasure and enjoy all the best ones. And I'll share my progress as I declutter my photos along with you :)

Today I'm talking about creating slideshows to enjoy your favourite pictures.

Today's Photo Decluttering Tip - Create Slideshows To Enjoy Your Favourite Pics

I've said this a few times in this series, but one of the main reasons for decluttering and organizing your photos is to be able to enjoy your favourites more. One great way to do that is to create slideshows. Here are a few reasons why:

  • Slideshows can show a lot of photos in a short amount of time
  • You can include short videos in slideshows
  • Slideshows can record memories of a special event or person
  • You can watch slideshows in a large group setting
  • Slideshows can be shared online with people who can't attend an event
  • You can create slideshows thematically or chronologically depending on how you have organized your pictures
  • Slideshows can include music to go along with your theme or the era in which the photos were taken
  • You can tell a story through a slideshow
  • Slideshows can incorporate text or even voice to help develop your story
  • They're fun to watch :)

There are lots of apps or programs you can use to create slideshows. Some incorporate lots of bells and whistles while some are more basic. Some let you have full control over the development of the slideshow while some have templates and will insert photos for you. Here are some tips for creating slideshows from Save Your Photos.

I've created slideshows using PowerPoint, Smilebox, and Google Slides but here are a few other options you can check out:

  • iMovie (for Mac)
  • Movie Maker (for PC)
  • Prezi
  • Animoto

Slideshows are often shared at funerals and memorial services. Buy why do we wait for the end of someone's life to capture their photos and memories in one spot? It would be fun to create slideshows of lots of friends and family members and show them at birthdays, parties, or other celebrations. It's a great way to enjoy your photos!

My Photo Decluttering Progress

I finished the pile of photos from the big album that I went through yesterday and I decluttered 92 more pictures, which was 58% of the photos in the pile. So I maintained my 58% overall average.

I will go through one last large scrapbook next and then I will be finished all the pre-digital camera pictures.

Your Turn!

Today your task is to look for an app or program to create a slideshow. Then decide on a theme or era or person that you want to feature. Gather some photos and put together a basic slideshow. You can always add some bells and whistles later, but get a feel for how to put one together. Then share it and show it and see how much fun it is to enjoy your photos this way! Let that motivate you to continue decluttering your photos too :)
