Organizing Ideas For The Weekend: Packing Tips

Happy Friday!  Time for another organizing idea for your weekend!

Continuing on with my vacation, travel, and packing theme, today I want to share some great packing tips with you!

I've started packing for our upcoming vacation and I'll be sharing some of my own tips with you on Monday.  But in the meantime, here are some other tips I've found online.

1.  Not sure where to start packing?  Unclutter has a list of questions to ask yourself to help you bring what you need, and nothing more.

2.  Short on suitcases?  Check out how Sam fit her 3 kiddos' clothes into 1 suitcase!

3.  Worried about your your necklaces with thin chains getting tangled?  Feed one end through a straw and attach it to the other end, to keep them from tangling.  So creative!  Check out this tip and several other creative ones here!

4.  Don't have much space in your suitcase?  My friend Ann recommends taking 2 tops for every bottom (for adults) since most people pay more attention to the top half of you anyway.  She gives more great packing tips in this post.

5.  Traveling with kids?  Use large zip-top freezer bags to contain each day's outfit (including socks, underwear, and accessories) and then "file" the bags in the suitcase.  This helps you not overpack, and makes it easy for your kids to get dressed each day (or for someone other than you to help dress them)!

Forever Organised

I hope these ideas help you when you're packing for your next vacation!  And stay tuned on Monday for more packing tips from me, as I pack for our vacation.

You can find lots of other travel tips on my Organizing for Travel board on Pinterest.

If you'd like additional ideas of what you can organize this weekend, there's a tab at the top of this page called Weekend Ideas.  It has links to all my Organizing Ideas for the Weekend posts.

How do you pack for your vacations?  Have you used any of these tips?  What additional suggestions can you share?  Where are you going on your next holiday?

Happy organizing and have a great weekend!

  1. Most of our vacations are usually visits to go stay with family, which usually means packing pillows and bedding along with clothes and some toys for the boys. The best investment we ever made was in a set of vacuum bags. I used one for bedding, one for our clothes and one for the boys' clothes. Once thy were packed and vacuumed they fit in a large tote bin with room to spare. That's 4 pillows, 3 comforters/duvets, sheets, plus enough clothes for 4 for a week or two, and extra jackets. And we managed to fit it all plus air beds and other necessities in the back of our Jetta.

    1. We have those vacuum bags too Alli! When we used to do road trips in our tiny little car, they really helped us be able to fit everything in. Now that we have a van we don't use them as much. I love the idea of using them and a tote to store all those big bulky but air-filled items! People who fly need to be careful with them though... it's easy to go over your weight limits when you use them :)

    3. It would allow you to have less baggage, but it's amazing how heavy those vacuumed bags become.

  3. That is so smart! And you could put the dirty clothes back in the bag too.. since kids dirty clothes are usually REALLY dirty! Great idea! pinning!

    1. Oh I like the dirty clothes in the bags idea Kim! Keeps the clean clothes clean and then it's easy to empty the dirty bags into the laundry when you get home.

Thanks also for telling me how to put the video in my blog. I appreciate it and I just had no idea. I am so proud of my grandson and his wife and of course I totally adore that baby. Such a blessing to my life.

  5. That ziplock bag idea is brilliant! And I might just keep the bags we use in the suitcase so they can be reused. ;)
