Day 15 - Entryway / Mudroom Organizers {31 Cheap & Easy DIY Organizers}

Think you have to spend a lot of money on costly organizing tools to get your house in order?  Nope!  Getting organized doesn't have to be expensive!

Throughout this series I'm sharing ideas to help you organize your home by either

  • making simple organizers with things that don't cost very much OR
  • using items you already have in a different way.
If cost has been holding you back from getting organized, now you've got no more excuses!

Entryways and mudrooms can become very overwhelming.  They are often cluttered and unorganized.  But because they are the first thing you see when you come home, they can increase your stress level and that's not something you want when you come home!

Today I'm sharing cheap and easy DIY ideas to help you organize your entry or mudroom.

  • Having a place to keep your keys, sunglasses, and other small items is crucial to having an organized entry area.  Check out this tutorial for how to make this DIY organizer.  You can customize it to match your decor.  And, there are links in that post to several other amazing DIY sunglass and key organizers she made too!

  • If you don't have a closet, or have a very small one, you can create your own "mudroom" with a few hooks and strips of wood.  Depending on your style you can even use old hooks or knobs found at garage sales or thrift stores to make this transformation cheaper.  Having hooks for kids' coats really helps keep an entry area more organized!

  • There are some beautiful mudrooms on Pinterest and in magazines.  But many of them come with an expensive price tag.  This is an example of an expensive-looking mudroom, but it was DIY'd using inexpensive book cases and some crown molding (check out the link for all the details).  It's not as cheap as some of the ideas I've shared in this series, but it's much cheaper than if you don't DIY it!

  • If you don't have space for a full "mudroom", you can convert a closet into one.  If you plan it well you'll actually have more useful and organized space than you had in your closet. Here's one example of a DIY closet-turned-mudroom (as always, click the link below the picture to get the details of how they made it).

Each of these ideas can be tailored to fit your space, decor, and needs.  That's the beautiful part of DIY projects :)  You can be creative to save money and still be practical to get the organization you need.
