Day 27 - Shelves {31 Cheap & Easy DIY Organizers}

Think you have to spend a lot of money on costly organizing tools to get your house in order?  Nope!  Getting organized doesn't have to be expensive!

Throughout this series I'm sharing ideas to help you organize your home by either

  • making simple organizers with things that don't cost very much OR
  • using items you already have in a different way.
If cost has been holding you back from getting organized, now you've got no more excuses!

Shelves are a great organizing tool.  But they can be expensive to buy.  If you want to use shelves to help you organize, but don't want to spend a lot, you can make your own shelves, often for a fraction of the cost of buying them.

Here are some ideas to get you thinking about how you can DIY shelves!

  • If you want to maximize the vertical space somewhere in your home, you can add your own "shelves" using baskets.  Check out this tutorial for a very cheap and easy solution!

    Organizing Made Fun

  • Floating bookshelves are so pretty and incorporating them into a child's room for their picture books is a great idea!  Here's a tutorial to help you make your own.

  • Here's another tutorial for a different style of floating shelves.

Simply Organized

  • Another DIY shelves idea is to use simple crates.  Here's a post showing you how to make these pretty shelves.

I Heart Organizing

  • Here's another tutorial for using a stack of crates for a full bookcase.

  • And if you're looking for creative ideas to build corner shelves, check out this post which has a whole bunch of great ideas!

I've had these shelves for years.  They're currently in our basement but over the years they've been in my bedroom, my office, and my living room.  I use stacks of bricks to hold them up instead of screwing rails into the walls.  I love the look of them!

Desk Shelves

The best thing about DIY'ing shelves is you can make them so that they suit your style and your space.  These ideas are all so different, but they all give you extra space to organize and store items in your home!
